seeing more and more plastic wash ashore his beloved home beach. In a bid to
discover the route of this problem he embarks on a journey of discovery to
educate himself and understand more about the problem. Along the way, he discovers
some alarming issues.
Plastic Pollution is a very real threat to the future of our
planet, the animals that inhabit our oceans and ultimately the human race. The
problem is far worse than it seems on the surface and we need to act now to
ensure we protect the future for ourselves and our planet.
Historian Ramachandra Guha joins us as we review the 5 years
of the Modi government. How has the NDA fared in comparison to UPA-2? How would
one view the current election campaigns that are underway? We discuss all that
on UpFront with Karan Thapar.

Russia is
considered as the biggest nuclear power country in the world, with an estimated
8500 warheads in its control. The country has conducted a total of 715 nuclear
tests till date, with the first test dating back to 1949 and the most recent
one conducted in 1990.
2. United
States
Featuring
on number 2 in the list of top 10 nuclear power countries in the world is
United States, which has 7700 nuclear weapons in its inventory. It has
conducted around 1054 nuclear tests, with the first one back in 1945 and the
latest one carried out in 1992.
3. France
On number 3
in this list is France, which has an estimated 300 nuclear warheads. The
country registered its presence in this field in 1960 by conducting its first
nuclear test, and has conducted 210 such tests till date, the most recent one
being conducted in 2006.
4. China
China is
another major nuclear power country of the world, with came to the nuclear
weapon scenario in 1964 with its first nuclear test. Today, the country owns
nearly 250 nuclear warheads and has conducted 45 nuclear tests in all, with the
last one back in 1996.
5. United
Kingdom
With an
estimated 225 nuclear warheads in its inventory, United Kingdom comes on number
5 in the list of top 10 nuclear power countries of the world. Till date, United
Kingdom has carried out 45 nuclear tests, the first one being in 1952 and the
most recent one in 1991.
6. Pakistan
Pakistan
occupies sixth position on this list, with estimated 100-120 weapons in stock.
The country carried out a total of 6 nuclear tests, all in 1998, which greatly
escalated tension in this part of the world at that time.
7. India
Next on the
list of top 10 nuclear power countries of the world is India, which has
estimated 90-110 warheads with it. Out of the 6 nuclear tests carried out by
the country, the first one was conducted in 1974 and the most recent one in
1998.
8. Israel
Featuring
next on this list of biggest nuclear powers in the world is the small nation of
Israel, which has as many as 80 warheads. The other statistics about nuclear
tests conducted by Israel are not known.
9. North
Korea
North Korea
is on number 9 in this list, which has come to the nuclear power scene more
recently, the first test being carried out in 2006. Currently, North Korea has
10 nuclear warheads and has conducted a total of 3 nuclear tests, with the most
recent one in 2013.
10. Iran
Iran has
been recognized as one of the nuclear powers in the world, though no
information is available about its possession of nuclear warheads or nuclear
tests conducted by it.

The
Chennakeshava Temple, also referred to as Keshava, Kesava or Vijayanarayana
Temple of Belur, is a 12th-century Hindu temple in the Hassan district of
Karnataka state, India. Belur temple was commissioned by King Vishnuvardhana in
1117 CE, on the banks of the Yagachi River in Belur also called Velapura, an
early Hoysala Empire capital. Belur temple was built over three generations and
took 103 years to finish. Belur temple artwork depicts scenes of secular life
in the 12th century, dancers and musicians, as well as a pictorial narration of
Hindu texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas. Belur temple
is considered to be one of the earliest creations of Hoysala dynasty. At its
highest, Belur temple stands 37 metres tall. Its outer walls are adorned with
finely done artwork, with dancing girls in various postures.
Belur
Chennakesava temple has three entrances and their doorways have decorated
sculptures called dvarapalaka (doorkeepers) on either side. The navaranga hall
has forty eight pillars. All except the central four are carved in a unique
way. This place is one of the famous tourist destination in Karnataka - India.
As per saying, the beauty of this temple is inside as there are 48 pillars
carved in different designs.
The vast
complex has a large rajagopura or gate arches .On the right of the temple is
the Kappe Channigraya temple and a smaller temple dedicated to a Lakshmi
reincarnation, the goddess Sowmyanayaki, sits slightly behind the two. On the
left of Belur Chennakeshava temple, one can find the Ranganayaki temple.The
Gravity Pillar-The decline of the Hoysalas saw the emergence of the rulers of
Vijayanagara. The reign of King Devaraya saw his commander Bice Dandanayaka
install the unique 42 feet tall lamp post, the Karthika Deepotsava
Stambha. This pillar is a testament to
the architectural expertise during King Devaraya’s reign, with the post simply placed over a flat platform.
It appears to be standing on its own dead weight, and has astounded visitors
for ages. The doorways of the temple’s mantapa
features a Hoysala king slaying what historians believe is either a tiger or
lion. It is also believed that this could be a symbolic representation of the
defeat of the Cholas, whose royal emblem is a tiger.
The Hoysala
period of South Indian history began about 1000 CE and continued through 1346
CE. In this period, they built around 1,500 temples in 958 centres. Belur is
home to one of the grandest examples of Hoysala architecture. Belur is located
on the banks of river Yagachi and is known as Dakshina Banaras or ‘Banaras of the South’, Belur is
called Beluhur, Velur or Velapura in old inscriptions and medieval era texts.
It was the early capital of the Hoysala kings. The city was so esteemed by the
Hoysalas that it is referred to as "earthly Vaikuntha" (Vishnu's
abode) and "dakshina Varanasi" (southern holy city of Hindus) in
later inscriptions.
It is 35 km
from Hassan city and about 200 km from Bengaluru, 155 kms from Mysore and 153
kms from Mangalore .
Hassan is a town in
the Indian state of Karnataka. Hassan is situated 980 m above sea level. It is
named after the Hasanamba temple. Hassan Tourism offers many other famous
