2. Of the three major countries of the EU, only in the case of Germany, there is a marginal increase in allocation for R&D, while France and UK have registered a decrease.
3. The spending on R&D by the US declined over the period 2000-2006 from 2.74% to 2.61%.
4. Now, under President Obama, the US has earmarked $15 billion for research and science infrastructure.
5. While funding of research by business in EU countries declined from 1.05% in 2000 to 1% in 2006, the decline in US is 0.21%.
