What a fascinating topic for our SCIENCE WATCH column!
The fourth dimension takes us into the extraordinary world of geometry, relativity, atomic stability and the mysteries of the universe.
One important scientific distinction will make our pictograph even more valuable:
the fourth dimension does not automatically destroy the Earth.
The dramatic claim refers to a hypothetical universe with four spatial dimensions in which the laws governing matter and forces might be different.
In Einstein’s relativity, however, we already describe the universe using four dimensions:
three of space and one of time.
