Sam Van Aken, an artist and professor at Syracuse University, uses
"chip grafting" to create trees that each bear 40 different varieties
of stone fruits, or fruits with pits. The grafting process involves slicing a
bit of a branch with a bud from a tree of one of the varieties and inserting it
into a slit in a branch on the "working tree," then wrapping the
wound with tape until it heals and the bud starts to grow into a new branch.
Over several years he adds slices of branches from other varieties to the
working tree. In the spring the "Tree of 40 Fruit" has blossoms in
many hues of pink and purple, and in the summer it begins to bear the fruits in
sequence—Van Aken says it's both a work of art and a time line of the
varieties' blossoming and fruiting. He's created more than a dozen of the trees
that have been planted at sites such as museums around the U.S., which he sees
as a way to spread diversity on a small scale.

Scientists make unexpected
discoveries every single day: unexplained phenomena, new animal species,
submerged continents... There have long been speculations of a "lost
continent" underwater, hidden somewhere in the ocean. But it turns out,
scientist have found traces of it, even its tip. What could this discovery
mean? And could there be more continents underwater?

AMAZING FACTS : DEVOURING TREES !
DEVOURING BY TREES'
HELMETS, GRENADES, GUNS
DISCARDED DURING WWII

Long after the dust from the last battle has settled, the dead have been
laid to rest and the confetti from the victory parade has been swept into the
gutter, the nature continues to bear the scars of human conflicts.
A remarkable series of photos taken in a Russian forest have been making
the rounds on social media sites, showing what happens over time to instruments
of carnage discarded in the woods.
Images depict rifles, artillery shells, grenades and sapper shovels
embedded in tree trunks - essentially swallowed up by the natural surroundings
in a silent act of protest against human folly.
Some of the most powerful images in the sequence show slender trees
growing through gaping holes in Soviet Army helmets.
The shape and condition of the protective gear suggest that the helmets
belonged to Red Army servicemen during World War II.
Given that each of the hard-hats is damaged, their owners most likely
had met a violent end.
It is likely that the helmets came to rest on young saplings during a
battle. Over time, the maturing trees widened the bullet holes, and the helmets
essentially became impaled.
Alexander Ostapenko, a Soviet military history enthusiast and World War
II re-enactor from Kolomna, Russia, shared some of the images on his VKontakte
social media account.
Mr Ostapenko revealed that most of the photos have been taken in the
area of the Neva Bridgehead, known as Nevsky Pyatachok, which was the site of
one of the most crucial campaigns during the devastating Siege of Leningrad
that lasted from September 1941 to May 1943.
The poignant photos capturing the rusted out vestiges of World War II
overwhelmed by trees drive home the message that in the end, after all the
medals were handed out to heroes and all the peace treaties were signed, the
only true victor is nature.

What do trees talk about? In the Douglas fir forests of Canada, see how
trees “talk” to each other by forming underground symbiotic
relationships—called mycorrhizae—with fungi to relay stress signals and share
resources with one another.

AMAZING FACTS : GRAPHENE, WONDER MATERIAL & ITS FASCINATING PROPERTIES
WHAT'S GRAPHENE AND

What is graphene? What is it used for? The most amazing thing about this
semi-metal of the future is the fact that you can produce it yourself in your
living room!
What is graphene, and why is it so amazing? One of the things that makes
graphene so cool is that it’s the thinnest material you can imagine. It's just
one atom thick! This means this material is mathematically 2-dimensional. And
you can still hold this single layer of atoms in your hands!
Surprisingly, graphene isn't a unique or rare substance. In fact, it has
the same carbon structure as the graphite you use every day when you draw or
write with your pencil! But at the same time, in 0.03” of graphite, there are
about 3 million graphene layers!

SUMMARY:
- Graphene isn't a unique or rare substance. In fact, it has the same
carbon structure as the graphite you use every day when you draw or write with
your pencil! But at the same time, in 0.03” of graphite, there are about 3
million graphene layers!
- Dr. Konstantin Novoselov and Professor Andre Geim discovered the
wonder-material in 2004 at the University of Manchester. They were examining
how efficient graphite is as a transistor. The story goes that graphene
appeared thanks to sticky tape!
- Graphene used to be incredibly expensive to manufacture. It cost a
whopping $1,100 to produce enough graphene to cover the head of a pin. However,
by the end of 2015, you could buy 0.35 oz of graphene for $1,000.
- Graphene is incredibly stretchy. It can stretch as much as 25% of its
length! This material is also really stiff. Actually, it’s the hardest material
people know about — even harder than diamonds, and that says a lot!
- One more great thing about graphene is its relationship with
electricity. This material carries electricity more quickly, more precisely,
and more efficiently than any other known material.
- Graphene may be the answer to the water crisis many countries are
facing. If we make membranes from graphene, they would be able to let water
through while filtering out salt at the same time.
- One layer of graphene is impressive enough. Can you imagine what you
could achieve with 2 layers of this super material? Nothing short of incredibly
strong body armor.
- If producers start to use graphene in gadget manufacturing, we might
end up with smartphones that can be bent in any direction. One of graphene’s
main properties is its flexibility.
- Graphene can be used in the beauty industry as well. It will be the
perfect alternative to current hair dyes, most of which are still toxic and
damaging to hair.
- Well, you can potentially make graphene at home, provided you have
enough time and patience to do so.

AMAZING FACTS : WHAT HUMANS WILL LOOK LIKE IN 1,000 YEARS
WHAT HUMANS WILL LOOK LIKE

1,000 YEARS

There will eventually be a day
where prosthetics are no longer just for the disabled. However, it’s not just
our outside appearance that will change – our genes will also evolve on
microscopic levels to aid our survival.
For example, an Oxford-led
study discovered a group of HIV-infected children in South Africa living
healthy lives. It turns out, they have a built-in defense against HIV that
prevents the virus from advancing to AIDS.
And with gene-editing tools
like CRISPR, we may eventually control our genes and DNA to the point where we
make ourselves immune to disease and even reverse the effects of aging.
Another way to jump-start the
human evolution on a different path is to move some of us to Mars. Mars
receives 66% less sunlight than Earth. Which could mean humans on Mars will
evolve larger pupils that can absorb more light in order to see. And since
Mars’ gravitational pull is only 38% of Earth’s, people born on Mars might
actually be taller than anyone on Earth. In space, the fluid that separates our
vertebrae expands, which led American aerospace engineer, Robert Zubrin to
suggest that Mars’ low gravity could allow the human spine to elongate enough
to add a few extra inches to our height.
However, not even a move to
Mars could spark the biggest change in human evolution that we may have coming
in the next 1,000 years: immortality. The path to immortality will likely
require humans to download their consciousness into a machine. Right now,
scientists in Italy and China are performing head transplants on animals to
determine if you can transfer consciousness from one body to another. They
claim their next big step is to transplant human heads.
Whatever happens in the next
1,000 years — whether we merge with machines or become them — one thing is
certain: The human race is always changing — and the faster we change and
branch out from Earth, the better chance we have of outrunning extinction.

Astronomers have found a new Planetary System that resembles closely to
our Solar System and one planet has good chance of habitability. L 98-59 is a
M-type dwarf star located 35 light years away from Earth. Astronomers have
found 4 planets around L 98-59 these planets are L 98-59 a, b, c and d. First
planet is about half the mass of Venus second planet is a super Earth exoplanet
with mass equal to 1.01 Earths.
The third planet could be a water world with water up-to 30 percent of
its mass which makes it a pure ocean world with the possibility of underwater
life. Astronomers have also found hints of 4th planet. This one orbits in the
habitable zone with a possibility of liquid water on surface just like Earth.
