Net Watch-1: 'New e-mail addresses from Yahoo"

Yahoo on Thursday (June 19, 2008) tripled the size of its globally-popular free online e-mail service by adding two domains as options to “yahoo.com” addresses.

The introduction of “ymail.com” and “rocketmail.com” as Yahoo e-mail address options comes as the Internet firm strives to convince investors it is on a path to reclaim faded glory and eroded revenues.

Yahoo Mail is the most popular web-based e-mail in the world. Its profitable, advertisement-supported service has approximately 266 million users, according to industry statistics.

Adding new domains is intended to let users who have outgrown or never really liked their yahoo.com e-mail addresses to have chances at better choices.

“We recognize that people want an e-mail address that reflects who they are,” said Yahoo Mail vice president, John Kremer. “We have a lot of user Ids out there and it is pretty crowded. We want to remedy that and make sure users get the ID they want.”

Free e-mail addresses are typically assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. This means newcomers choosing yahoo.com Ids are unlikely to get their prime choices when signing up.

A Harris Interactive study commissioned by Yahoo concluded that 70% of adults w0ould select an address that includes all or part of their names.

Yahoo says the rocketmail and ymail choices are meant to give another chance to email users saddled with addresses such “CutiePie4ever80” or “Mary2455”.

“A happy user is one that stays around and is a Yahoo user for life.” Mr.Kremer said, “If you have an e-mail address that is your name at ymail, that becomes part of your identity.”

Yahoo expects users to readily recognize “ymail” because it is used for a version of the e-mail customized for mobile devices.

Rocketmail has a “hip retro feel” because it is a resurrect3ed e-mail address that belonged to a company Yahoo bought in 1997, according to Mr.Kremer. “This adds millions and millions of new Yahoo accounts out there for users. Effectively, we are tripling the size of the Yahoo name space.” – AFP

Bill Gates Wealth Index etc

While browsing to learn about 'uncopyrighted' materials and issues relating to copyright, I stumbled across Brad Templeton's Homepage and came across this 1998-article on Bill Gates wealth. It was funny and very interesting. The homepage also has three more pieces on Bill Gates.
Bill Gates aficionados, why, detractors also, may find the article enjoyable, with all the statistics about what Gates earns every second. To read the article, you can click the following URL : http://www.templetons.com/brad/billg.html
Thank you very much, Mr.Templeton, thank you! To know more about, Brad Templeton, just click: ( He seems to be a very interesting guy.) http://www.templetons.com/brad/#faqs
My efforts to understand copyright laws, I propose to post in a day or two.

July 4th, a Memorable day!

1. On July 4, 1902, Swami Vivekananda attained mukti at the age of 39. His life and teachings had and continues to have a tremendous impact and dynamic influence world-wide. He inspired not only the Indian Freedom Movement but also societies and individuals world over. He introduced Yoga and Vedanta to the West. He helped to restore a sense of pride among Indians.

Another of his great contribution to Hinduism is by clearly delineating the difference between the Sruti and the Smritis: "Vivekananda made a strict demarcation between the two classes of Hindu scriptures : the Sruti and the Smritis. The Sruti, by which is meant the Vedas, consist of eternally and universally valid spiritual truths. The Smritis on the other hand, are the dos and donts of religions, applicable to society and subject to revision from time to time. Vivekananda felt that existing Hindu smritis had to be revised for modern times. But the Srutis of course are eternal - they may only be re-interpreted.Vivekanda advised his followers to be holy, unselfish and have
shraddha (faith)"(Wikipedia).

I have been attracted to Swami Vivekananda right from my school days. I came to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Holy Mother Sarada Devi through him only. Later through my friend, Dr.R.Janakiraman(who has been the turning point in my life), I became closer to the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Movement.

Some of Swamiji's quotes, I repeat frequently and they have been sustaining me through difficulties and challenges. A few important of these:

(a) Anything that makes you weak - physically, mentally and spiritually - reject it as poison.
(b) Arise! Awake! and Stop not till the goal is reached!
(c) For the coward, neither this world nor the other world.
(d) Strength is Life, weakness is death. Expansion is Life, Contraction is Death. Love is Life, Hatred is Death.

My salutations to Swamiji, Sri Ramakrishna and Holy Mother on this memorable day!

2. July 4th is the Independence Day of the United States of America.

"In the
United States, Independence Day (commonly known as "the Fourth of July","July Fourth", or even simply "The Fourth") is a federal holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain.
Independence Day is commonly associated with
fireworks, parades, barbecues, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Fireworks have been associated with the Fourth of July since 1777." (Wikipedia)
