The invasion of Poland gave rise to modern warfare that was literally powered by the internal combustion engine.  Blitzkrieg (German, "lightning war" listen is an anglicised word describing all-motorised force concentration of tanks, infantry, artillery, combat engineers and air power, concentrating overwhelming force at high speed to break through enemy lines, and, once the lines are broken, proceeding without regard to its flank. Through constant motion, the blitzkrieg attempts to keep its enemy off-balance, making it difficult to respond effectively at any given point before the front has already moved on.

During the interwar period, aircraft and tank technologies matured and were combined with systematic application of the German tactics of infiltration and bypassing of enemy strong points. When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Western journalists adopted the term blitzkrieg to describe this form of armoured warfare

DISASTER AND THE END OF THE AIRSHIP ERA

The Hindenburg disaster marked the beginning of the end for travel by dirigible. But airships were once a popular and luxurious way to travel.

DEAN NICHOLAS | PUBLISHED IN HISTORY TODAY

On May 6th 1937, the German airship LZ 129 Hindenburg was destroyed in a fire whilst attempting to dock at a station in New Jersey.

Theories about what exactly happened differ: at the time, it was thought to be an act of sabotage, but it is now believed that a spark, possibly caused by static build-up, ignited a fire that blazed through the hydrogen-filled craft. The ensuing inferno, which took the lives of 13 passengers, 22 crew, and one person on the ground, was captured on cine film and memorably narrated by the newsreader, Herbert Morrison ....

The wheel: great inventions which changed history.

The wheel, is one of the oldest inventions of humanity, and for sure one of the most important. Contemporarily we couldn’t imagine a world without it, since it is crucial for many things… but not only for vehicles, like cars or bicycles, but also for example for the function of a watch or a merygoround.

The wheel was first seen, on small clay tables discovered in Mesopotamia. These tables, represent a car with wheels and are more than 5 thousand years old.

According to archaeologists, the wheel, was invented in Mesopotamia over 6 thousand years ago, but we don’t know who the inventor was.

Supposedly, the first wheel was invented after the first human beings used cylindrical tree trunks to move heavy things. Observing this, someone very intelligent, must have thought that mauking a wooden circle, with an axis, like current wheel barrels, it would be easier… and from then on, the first potters wheel, and cars appeared.

Crafts, were the first to use the wheel and it made it easier and faster for potters to make their pots, thanks to the potters wheel.

Here, we can see how two wheels and an axis, help this craftsman, endlessly.

Through time, the wheel, was also used in transport. Animals didn’t have to carry heavy weights on their backs, now, thanks to wheels they pulled the cars and moved a lot more weight with less effort… and from then the wheel has been an essential partner to human beings. Look look! The number of wheels we can see around us…

The truth is that it’s such a cool invention, don’t you think?

Goodbye HAppy friends, see you in our next video! Oh! And don’t forget to subscribe to Happy Learning TV.

From the Himalayas in the north to the Nilgiris in the south - for a hundred years these little trains have climbed through the clouds and into the wonderful world of Indian hill railways.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a line so close to the people that it flows like a river through their lives. The relationship between the train and the people is changing, however, as a new generation of Gurkhas populates these hills, demanding an independent state and fighting for a new identity as they journey into the modern Indian world.

#DidYouKnow #Sustainable
From importing all the electricity it needed from Gujarat, Diu now generates power to meet all its day-time needs. This power comes from its two solar parks — spread over of 0.2 sq km — and the rooftop panels on 112 government establishments.

Which means that through the day, the sun is powering all homes, the resorts with central air-conditioning, Diu’s 60-bed hospital, government buildings, air-conditioned office buildings, and the ice factories and fish warehouses that are its main power-consuming industries.

The switch to solar has also proven to be economically advantageous for consumers in Diu, as monthly electric bills have fallen sharply since the new energy system has been operating.

To cope with nighttime power needs, Diu may transfer surplus energy to the larger grid, then source energy as needed when the sun is not shining.

Much further south, the Kochi International Airport holds the distinct honor of being the world’s first solar-powered airport.
