SRI LANKAN FOOD - Sri Lanka is known As the pearl of the Indian Ocean, and that's because it really is a gem of an island. Today we had the privilege to visit an Indigenous Vedda Sri Lankan Village, where they prepared for us some traditional Sri Lankan food.

We first arrived to the lake, where we then had to take a boat across the lake, and then walk for about 30 minutes to get the village. The lush greenery, and an actual beauty was pristine. It started raining, so we just stopped cup of tea.

We arrived at the village, and we were greeted with open hands and an extremely warm welcom. The Aunty started cooking, a number of different dishes using millet, and the main dish with fresh deer meat. The food was unlike other Sri Lankan food I had before, and relied mainly on crops and ingredients they grew themselves locally.

It was an honor to experience Vedda culture and tradition, and food. Even though Uncle and I could not speak the same language or communicate verbally, it was hugely rewarding to just sit next to Uncle, smile, and share thoughts and positivity.

This was one of the most memorable meals and experiences I had in Sri Lanka.

PHOTO OF THE DAY

This award-winning 1967 photo, taken by Rocco Morabito, was titled "The Kiss of Life." It shows two electrical operators, Champion Randall and JD Thompson, on top of an electricity pole.
They had been performing routine maintenance when Champion brushed one of the low voltage lines at the top of the power pole. More than 4,000 volts entered Champion's body and his heart was instantly stopped (an electric chair uses about 2,000 volts). His safety harness prevented a fall, and Thompson, who had been ascending below him, quickly reached him and took a mouth-to-mouth breath. He was not able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, given the circumstances, but continued mouth-to-mouth breathing, keeping Champion's lungs active until he felt a slight pulse, then unfastened the harness and descended with it on his shoulder. Thompson and other workers performed CPR on the floor at Champion, whose breathing and heart rate were gradually restored. Then the paramedics arrived and Champion's recovery was complete. His partner had saved his life with what the picture looks like a kiss. Champion survived and lived until 2002, when he died of heart failure at the age of 64. Thompson is still living. The photograph was published in newspapers around the world and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1968.

The Trans Australian Railway runs from Port Augusta in South Australia to Kalgoorlie in Western Australia across the Nullarbor Plain. The railway is Standard Gauge 1.435 Meters (4 ft 8 1/2 inches). The line includes a 478-kilometre (297 mi) stretch of dead-straight track which is the world's longest. Today's video features a few trains on the railway in South Australia including the 49-year-old "Indian Pacific" and 90-year-old "The Ghan" passenger services on the longest straight session of track.

Trains Featured:

First up we have SCT Logistics Freight 7GP1 from Parkes to Perth approaching Ferguson with SCT013 & SCT009 on the 7th of October 2018.

02:25 - Genesee & Wyoming Australia Freight 7DA2 from Darwin to Adelaide powers towards the Coondambo overpass with GWA010/GWA006 on the 7th of October 2018.

The Nullarbor Plain is meant to be very flat however on the approach to Watson (Between Tarcoola & Cook) a small valley has formed which has created a steep climb at either end.

07:50 - Pacific National Intermodal 5PS6 crosses Pacific National loaded Steel Train 5MP2 (NR108/NR4) at Wynbring on the 8th of February 2019.

Discipline is the bridge between thought and accomplishment, the bridge between necessity and productivity. If there is one word that separates failure from success, it's Discipline. Failure is the result of neglecting the small daily disciplines over and over again. This neglect accumulated over a couple of years brings disaster. On the other hand success is the repetition of small daily disciplines over and over again on a consistent basis. Do not let neglect stack upon you so that you have Sorry scenario years from now, instead of celebrating your Success - Jim Rohn
