Various parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed heavy rains on Wednesday evening. With the formation of a depression over the Bay of Bengal, it is expected that the state will see more rainfall for at least the next two days.

Lashed by non-stop rainfall, Chennai is facing many issues with waterlogging in several areas in the city. Traffic diversions and closure of major subways have thrown normal life out of gear for the people there. These bring back memories of 2015. In 2015, Chennai experienced nightmarish flooding followed by heavy rainfall and also release of surplus water into the Adyar River from Chembarambakkam reservoir. Watch this ground report.

Flooded residential areas, waterlogged streets and people wading through knee-deep inundation -- pictures emerging from Tamil Nadu highlight how heavy rain has disrupted day-to-day life in parts of the state. Heavy rain battered Tamil Nadu on Monday, with the weather department warning that the downpour is expected to continue for another 48 hours.

In an interview with Rajdeep Sardesai, top Skymet Weather expert Mahesh Palawat said climate change is behind such heavy, unseasonal rain in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

There seems to be no relief for Tamil Nadu as the Meteorological department has predicted widespread rainfall across the state for the next couple of days. Even though there has been a decline in rainfall in Chennai and nearby districts like Chengelpet, water is yet to recede from parts of the state capital. The government has declared holiday for schools and colleges on November 10 and 11 in Chennai and eight other districts. Five people have died due to rain-related incidents and over 270 huts and 70 houses have been damaged. PM Modi
