750 Words.com
What is this site about?
It's about learning a new habit:
Writing. Every. Day.
I've long been inspired by an idea I
first learned about in The Artist's Way called morning pages. Morning pages are
three pages of writing done every day, typically encouraged to be in "long
hand", typically done in the morning, that can be about anything and
everything that comes into your head. It's about getting it all out of your
head, and is not supposed to be edited or censored in any way. The idea is that
if you can get in the habit of writing three pages a day, that it will help
clear your mind and get the ideas flowing for the rest of the day. Unlike many
of the other exercises in that book, I found that this one actually worked and
was really really useful.
I've used the exercise as a great way
to think out loud without having to worry about half-formed ideas, random
tangents, private stuff, and all the other things in our heads that we often
filter out before ever voicing them or writing about them. It's a daily brain
dump. Over time, I've found that it's also very helpful as a tool to get
thoughts going that have become stuck, or to help get to the bottom of a rotten
mood.

Beautiful Words of Wisdom

This
happened in some other country.
A cow was
running away from the jungle.
An
elephant stopped the cow and asked for the reason behind the panic.
The cow
said: Govt has ordered to catch all buffaloes in the jungle.
Elephant
asked: But you are a cow, why are you running?
Cow
replied: I know I am a cow. But if they catch me, it will take 20 years to
prove that I am a cow and not a buffalo!
Now, the
elephant also started running with the cow.

Photosynthesis
began 1.25 billion years ago on earth
The world’s oldest algae fossis are a billion years old,
according to a study which found that the basis for photosynthesis in today’s
plants was set in place 1.25 billion years ago.
The study published in the journal, Geology, may resolve
a long-standing mysery over the age of fossilized algae, Bangiomorpha
pubescens, which were first discovers in rocks in Arctic Canada in 1990.
The microscopic organism is believed to be the oldest
known direct ancestor of modern plants and animals, but it was poorly dated,
with estimates placing it somewhere between million and 1.2 billion years.

A Salute to the Wheel | Science |
Smithsonian
Evidence indicates wheels were
created to serve as potter's wheels around 3500 B.C. in Mesopotamia—300 years
before someone figured out to use them for chariots. The ancient Greeks
invented Western philosophy…and the wheelbarrow.

What
is ISO 9001?
ISO
9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality
management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the
ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and
regulatory requirements.
ISO
9001:2008 will be obsolete effective September 2018 and replaced by ISO
9001:2015.
ISO
9001:2008 is the standard that outlines the requirements an organization must
maintain in their quality system for ISO 9001:2008 certification. There are
several different documents in the ISO 9000 family of standards, but ISO 9001
is the only ISO standard that requires certification.
Life on Earth
wouldn't be possible without fungi
by Gaurav Shroff / 19 Dec 2017
A UK-based study has found that fungi were essential in
the creation of an oxygen-rich atmosphere, without which life on Earth wouldn't
be possible. Simulations in ancient Earth-like environment showed that fungi
was important in establishing breathable atmosphere over 500 million years ago
by "mining" the nutrient phosphorus from rocks and transferring it to
plants to power photosynthesis.

The Global Water Crisis: The Invisible Threat to
Humanity’s Future
Despite
the critical role that water has in our everyday lives, few people realize that
the world’s freshwater supply is facing a major crisis in the near future. With a billion more people to fed by 2025 and
increasing industrialization and standards of living, freshwater demand will
continue to grow. By 2025, water
withdrawals will skyrocket by 50% in developing countries and 18% in developed
countries.
The Global Suply of Water is Limited.
Yet demand for water keeps growing. 2.5% of the world’s water is freshwater. 1% of the world’s freshwater is easily
accessible to human use. 29% of the
world’s freshwater is underground. 70% of the world’s freshwater is in the form
of snow cover on mountains. In just 40 years, the world’s population has
doubled while our use of freshwater has quadrupled. The world’s population is
using 54% of the available freshwater supply.
By 2025, there will also be one
billion more mouths to feed, requiring an additional one trillion cubic meters
of water for agriculture alone. This will lead to 1.8 billion people living in
absolute water scarcity and 2/3 of the world’s population in stress conditions
from water shortage.
