David JP Phillips has spent 7 years studying 5000 speakers, amateurs and professionals in order for the first time in history to detail every single skill a communicator from stage or in a presentation uses in order to deliver their message. This TEDx talk gives you the very most important ones to bring with you to your next presentation or even everyday communication! Njegovi TEDx govori “How to avoid death by PowerPoint” i “The magical science of storytelling” imaju preko 2 milijuna pregleda, knjige su mu prodane u preko 30 zemalja, a njegova kompanija je najveći pružatelj edukacija za prezentacijske vještine na Skandinavskom poluotoku. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Q&A : WHAT CAN DNA TESTS REALLY TELL US ABOUT OUR ANCESTRY?

WHAT CAN DNA TESTS REALLY TELL US

Dig into the science of how ancestry DNA tests work, their accuracy, and why tracing ancestry is so complicated.

Two sisters take the same DNA test. The results show that one sister is 10% French, the other 0%. Both sisters share the same two parents, and therefore the same set of ancestors. So how can one be 10% more French than the other? Tests like these rely on our DNA to answer questions about our ancestry, but DNA actually can’t tell us everything. Prosanta Chakrabarty explores the accuracy of DNA tests.

GREAT BIG STORY

Mont Saint-Michel emerges from the tides in Normandy, France, like an ancient village from a fairytale. The coastal town built on a massive granite rock cuts a dramatic silhouette against the sky, rising from disappearing marshes to a Gothic Abbey at its height. With a permanent population of around 50, this popular tourist destination has a history dating back to at least the Roman era. Fancy a tour before the tides roll in?

ASTONISHING FACTS : WHAT IF ALL SAND BECAME WATER IN A SECOND

WHAT IF ALL SAND BECAME WATER IN A SECOND

BRIGHT SIDE

Millions of years ago, there were seas and oceans where deserts are today. What if it all comes back? Water instead of sand, where deserts used to be. Life on the planet would change completely. Sand can act like a liquid if a strong enough airflow makes it rise from below. The air reduces friction between sand particles, making more space. The particles begin to move freely as if they are in a liquid. If a huge vent suddenly opened under the Earth’s crust, blowing air from beneath, then perhaps the entire landscape would begin to sink like being in quicksand.

Such monuments as the Egyptian pyramids or the Sphinx would sink under the ground. Huge cities built on sand would disappear. The Sahara Desert would resemble one bubbling cauldron. Camel caravans would simply fall down. But don't worry, the animals wouldn’t get hurt. Liquid sand is filled with oxygen, so they’d be able to swim in it. But what would happen if all of the sand turned into the water instead of just a liquid version of itself? This is a hypothetical question but let's try to answer it.

The system that makes Driven a unique product was developed by Ceramicspeed in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Colorado. In the absence of the chain, the drive is via a super-light shaft equipped at each end with a series of ceramic bearings. The shaft is mounted on the front toothed wheel and, at the rear, on a system of thirteen gears (leading to thirteen different speeds) arranged on a flat surface, which replace the classic sprockets of traditional bikes. Tests carried out by the company have shown a reduction in friction of 49% compared to the best chain and derailleur system currently on the market and an overall efficiency practically doubled. The only “defect” – if we can talk about a defect – is the price. The cheapest chainless bicycle model currently available in the Ceramicspeed catalogue is on sale at a price of just under $2000: saying goodbye to the old chain is still a luxury for a few!

SCIENCE WATCH : DISCOVERY OF X-RAYS

This Day in #Physics History ---
(World Radiography Day)

In 1895, German physicist #Wilhelm_Conrad_Roentgen was the director of the physics department at the University of Wurtzburg and an active professor there. He had for some time been experimenting with a Lenard tube to produce cathode rays.

On Nov. 8, Roentgen was doing experiments in his darkened laboratory that involved covering the Lenard tube with lightproof paper and projecting the cathode rays onto various objects. Roentgen was surprised to see a piece of fluorescent material glowing under exposure to the cathode rays. He repeated the experiment, moving the fluorescent material further and further away from the Lenard tube. He noticed that the fluorescent material glowed up to two meters away from the Lenard tube’s cathode rays.

Roentgen knew that the cathode rays could not penetrate the lightproof covering over the Lenard tube, so he hypothesized that the glowing of the fluorescent material must be the result of some new kind of radiation. He began experimenting with putting different materials and objects between the Lenard tube and the fluorescent material and observing how the radiation passed through them.

It wasn’t until he had his wife put her hand in the path of the cathode ray that Roentgen made his famous discovery. The shadows from his wife’s hand over a photographic plate clearly showed the bones inside her hand and her wedding ring, while her flesh became transparent.

Roentgen named his discovery #X_rays because of their unknown properties. On Dec. 28, 1895, Roentgen published his first paper on X-rays and subsequently received dozens of scientific prizes and awards. Most notably, Roentgen was awarded the first-ever #NobelPrize in Physics in 1901 for his work.

Day 7 (Koh Chang เกาะช้าง): Eastern Thailand Food and Travel Tour. Watch all 8 videos here:

Koh Chang (เกาะช้าง) - Koh Chang is a beautiful jungle island in the Trat province of Thailand. It’s quite close to the mainland, and it’s a big enough island where you can take your car across the ferry to the island so that you can drive there. This was my first time to visit Koh Chang. I really wanted to explore the eastern side of the island, which is less visited and less developed to check out some food and fishing villages.

Kai Bae Beach - We started off at Kai Bae Beach.

Nong Anat Khao Gaeng (น้องอานัสข้าวแกงปักษ์ใต้) - This street food stall sells amazing southern Thai food curries, and this is where we first stopped for breakfast.

Beef dry curry (คั่วกลิ้งเนื้อ)

Beef soup (ซุปเนื้อ)

Dried fried fish (ปลาแดดเดียวทอด)

Total price - 190 THB ($$6.08)

The Coffee Home - Coffee wasn’t very good, but the scenery was great.

Americano - 60 THB ($1.92)

Coconut Organic Garden - This place is a must stop in Koh Chang. He’s such a friendly passionate man, who takes pride in his fruit, and he’ll serve you an amazing coconut shake.

Total price - 100 THB ($3.20)

Salak Khok (ชุมชนบ้านสลักคอก) - This is one of the few remaining traditional Koh Chang island fishing villages, and it’s a great place to see local life and take a walk.

Sakak Khok Seafood (สลักคอกซีฟู้ด) - One of the ways you can support the fishing community is by eating at the seafood restaurant. Even though it was quiet when we went there, the food was amazing, and it was so relaxing. Our bill was a bit expensive, but over half of it was because of the mantis shrimp.

Fried mantis shrimp (กั้งทอดกระเทียม)

Dried fried cuttlefish (ปลาหมึกแดดเดียว)

Shrimp salad (กุ้งพล่า)

Prik kleua (พริกเกลือ)

Total price - 1,760 THB ($56.29)

Long Beach (หาดทรายยาว) - This is a beach at the end of Koh Chang. Overall, I wasn’t that impressed.

Salak Phet (อ่าวสลักเพชร) - At the end the day we headed to Salak Phet, another village and bay. First we walked on the boardwalk over the mangroves - views were pretty fantastic, but it wasn’t in great shape. I still enjoyed it.

Krua Saeng Arun (ครัวแสงอรุณ) - Final end to the day we had another seafood restaurant, this time, it was alright, but not very good.

Crab cakes (หอยจ้อปู)

Mullet sour soup (ต้มส้มปลากระบอก)

Scallops (หอยเซลล์ผัดฉ่า)

Total price - 740 THB ($24.67)

Hope this Koh Chang (เกาะช้าง) food and travel guide will give you some ideas for your trip. Thanks for watching!
