What
is ISO 9001?
ISO
9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality
management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the
ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and
regulatory requirements.
ISO
9001:2008 will be obsolete effective September 2018 and replaced by ISO
9001:2015.
ISO
9001:2008 is the standard that outlines the requirements an organization must
maintain in their quality system for ISO 9001:2008 certification. There are
several different documents in the ISO 9000 family of standards, but ISO 9001
is the only ISO standard that requires certification.
Life on Earth
wouldn't be possible without fungi
by Gaurav Shroff / 19 Dec 2017
A UK-based study has found that fungi were essential in
the creation of an oxygen-rich atmosphere, without which life on Earth wouldn't
be possible. Simulations in ancient Earth-like environment showed that fungi
was important in establishing breathable atmosphere over 500 million years ago
by "mining" the nutrient phosphorus from rocks and transferring it to
plants to power photosynthesis.

The Global Water Crisis: The Invisible Threat to
Humanity’s Future
Despite
the critical role that water has in our everyday lives, few people realize that
the world’s freshwater supply is facing a major crisis in the near future. With a billion more people to fed by 2025 and
increasing industrialization and standards of living, freshwater demand will
continue to grow. By 2025, water
withdrawals will skyrocket by 50% in developing countries and 18% in developed
countries.
The Global Suply of Water is Limited.
Yet demand for water keeps growing. 2.5% of the world’s water is freshwater. 1% of the world’s freshwater is easily
accessible to human use. 29% of the
world’s freshwater is underground. 70% of the world’s freshwater is in the form
of snow cover on mountains. In just 40 years, the world’s population has
doubled while our use of freshwater has quadrupled. The world’s population is
using 54% of the available freshwater supply.
By 2025, there will also be one
billion more mouths to feed, requiring an additional one trillion cubic meters
of water for agriculture alone. This will lead to 1.8 billion people living in
absolute water scarcity and 2/3 of the world’s population in stress conditions
from water shortage.

Why do boomerangs come back?
Boomerangs
work on the same principles of aerodynamics as any other flying object; the key
to how a boomerang works is the airfoil. An airfoil is flat on one side but
curved on the other with one edge thicker than the other - this subjects the
boomerang to lift, keeping it in the air. The lift is generated because the air
flowing up over the curve of the wing has further to travel than the air
flowing past the flat side. The air moving over the curve travels faster in
order to reach the other side of the wing, creating lift. A boomerang has two airfoils,
each facing in a different direction. This makes the aerodyamic forces acting
on a thrown boomerang uneven. The section of the boomerang moving in the same
direction as the direction of forward motion moves faster than the section
moving in the opposite direction. Just like tank tracks moving at different
speeds, this causes the boomerang to turn in the air and return to the thrower.
