TOPIC OF THE DAY: PM'S 80TH INDEPENDENCE DAY ADDRESS

A Vision for 2047: Highlights from the PM’s 80th Independence Day Address

On August 15, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort, marking India's 80th Independence Day. The speech, steeped in ambition, laid out a comprehensive roadmap for transforming India into a developed nation—Viksit Bharat—by 2047, a century after independence.

A historic moment opened the ceremony: for the first time since Independence, Vande Mataram was sung at the Red Fort, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national song. From there, the Prime Minister detailed the progress made and the vital steps required for the future.

The 'Saptadhara' Vision

At the core of the address was the introduction of the Saptadhara (Seven Streams) reform plan, designed to propel India's growth across key sectors:

  • Manufacturing Power: Emphasizing a complete value chain from design to production, aiming to make India a trusted global supply chain hub.

  • Agriculture and Food Production: Focusing on leveraging Free Trade Agreements to make Indian agricultural products, like spices and millets, global brands.

  • Technology and Innovation: Recognizing the critical role of AI, quantum computing, robotics, and data centers. The PM noted that India must transition from being a tech market to a global innovation hub.

  • Gati Shakti: Prioritizing high-speed, seamless connectivity across cities and port-led development.

  • Defence Power: Pushing for self-reliance and positioning India as a global defence supplier, particularly in advanced areas like hypersonic technologies.

  • Green and Blue Economy: Aiming for leadership in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and unlocking the potential of ocean technology, coastal tourism, and fisheries.

  • Soft Power: Capitalizing on India's cultural influence through yoga, spiritual centers, holistic healthcare, tourism, and a growing "concert economy".

Focusing on the Youth

The Prime Minister emphasized that the youth will be the primary beneficiaries of a Viksit Bharat. Key announcements aimed at this demographic included:

  • A commitment to train over one crore youth in Artificial Intelligence within the next year.

  • The provision of free online coaching for students preparing for competitive exams.

  • A nationwide "Talent Hunt" targeting the 5-15 age group to prepare for the 2036 Olympics, aiming to compete in currently untapped categories.

The address underscored a collective resolve: the dream of a developed India by 2047 requires the dedication of all 140 crore citizens, moving from conviction rather than compulsion.
